A lot of time has passed since Cara Delevingne and Michelle Rodriguez were last spotted together in public– we’re putting it at over a month, which, trust us, is a long time in lesbian relationships. But hearing how Michelle, who was infamously really cagey about her sexuality before coming out as bisexual last year, has spoken about how the attention the relationship received (or is getting?) is a positive development.
When asked about her bisexuality at an LGBT charity event – the first time she’s ever attended an official LGBT event – last week, she replied: ‘It’s cool man, I mean, whatever. I’m not big on people’s opinions, you know? Unless it’s somebody I really respect. I don’t care what people out there have to say.’
So far, so dismissive. But then, importantly, according to Gay Star News, she added: ‘But I do realise the importance of having the bravery to live as who you are and I feel like a lot of people don’t have that bravery. Maybe by me opening my big fat mouth like I usually do and stepping up and owning who I am, it might inspire somebody else to do the same.’
Now, as far as specifics go, we really haven’t heard a peep from Cara and Michelle with regards to each other. They did spend most of the first half of the year in each other’s clutches in paparazzi shots. And when they weren’t being papped, they featured heavily on each other’s Instagram. However, each have now been substituted with other fun Instagram-worthy things. Michelle has made way for photos of Cara hanging out with Suki Waterhouse, Lily Allen, Kristen Stewart, Karl Lagerfeld, Katy Perry, Stella McCartney… do we need to go on? And now Michelle’s Instagram is full of screen grabs from old films, basketball games and videos of her lip-syncing along to songs in the car.
Cara’s also been spotted hanging out with old ‘wifey’ Rita Ora. They seemed to fall out at some point last year after being pretty much inseparable for a few months, but now they’re back in cahoots – Rita posting a photo of the pair with the hashtag-heavy caption ‘Crazy as always!!! Love this girl for now and forever! @caradelevingne #BFF #SistersDoingItForThemselves #StartedFromTheBottomNowWeHere #Wifeys x’
Regardless of how things are between Cara and Michelle right now, it’s undeniable that by being so public with their relationship, they inspired other people to be brave about themselves. If Cara’s so popular that people are getting eyebrow implants, you can bet she’ll be so popular that women questioning their sexuality might just go for it, knowing there’s someone just like them in the public eye.
