You thought that Justin Bieber was just a pop star, a jumped-up YouTube sensation who happens to be a bit too cocky and famous for his own good? No, actually he's such an important example of teenagerhood careering off of the rails that even FLOTUS (First Lady Of The United States, FYI) Michelle Obama has offered his mum, Pattie Mallette, some advice on how to deal with her son.

'I would pull him close. I don’t know if it would be advice as much as action,' she said to Univision. 'I would be very present in his life right now. And I would be probably with him a good chunk of the time, just there to talk, to figure out what’s going on in his head, to figure out who’s in his life and who’s not, you know.'

Michelle said it's a parenting skill she's used with daughters Malia and Sasha. 'I found that to be the case with my kids. They just want you near, you know - they want that advice from a parent. They want to see you on a daily basis, you know, because the thing is he’s still a kid. He’s still growing up. So, I would pull him close.'

We must stress again that Michelle was asked about Justin, she isn't one of those people who just goes out handing out unwarranted advice, apart from when it comes to telling Americans to eat healthily. And, let's be honest, Pattie, whose son has been arrested twice in the past fortnight and is being investigated for the $20,000 (£12,000) worth of damage done to a neighbour's house in Los Angeles, might need all the advice she can get.
