Just in case we needed a reason to keep on watching The X Factor - and, let's face it, a lot of us really did - Mel B is to join the judging panel of the TV talent show. Though her reported fee of £1m is £500k less than what Cheryl Cole's being given for her return to Simon Cowell's series, the show will definitely get its money's worth from the former Spice Girl.

'Mel B was Simon’s number one choice for the final place on the panel, he was really impressed when they met up and he likes her style and what she was saying she can bring to the show in their meeting,' a source told The Mirror. 'She is certainly not a shrinking violet and will say exactly what she thinks. She will stir things and be up for a laugh which is important.'

This won't be her first time as a judge; she's been a judge on Australian X Factor from 2011-2012 and she's been a judge on America's Got Talent since last year. Oh, and she wowed us all when she was a hilarious, no-nonsense guest judge on The X Factor two years ago.

Though she's not exactly known for a huge abundance of the obvious talents - read singing and dancing - she's got that bolshy charm which, in the days before The X Factor meant a TV show,* was* 'the x factor', that bit of something else that makes a person stand out to become a pop star.

Plus, she'll be able to give a lot of giggles, and will provide Cheryl with someone to banter with, and that's something The X Factor totally needs right now.
