In Defence Of Caring About Work As Much As Meghan Markle Does

Royal staff are criticising Meghan for her work ethic - but why is caring about your role such a bad thing?

A new report by the Mail on Sunday claims ‘hurricane Meghan’ is rubbing royal staff up the wrong way with her 'incessant' early morning texts ‘with ideas and requests.’

Up at 5am every morning, the Duchess has apparently been finding ways to arrange meetings with British people associated with good causes, alongside the publicised engagements we all see her attend.

‘Well-meaning as she is, her particular brand of ‘up and at ’em’ West Coast energy is an uncomfortable fit with the more formal ethos of some palace staff,’ reports the Mail.

This story comes after a number of aides have left jobs working for Meghan and Harry, including Meghan’s personal assistant, known as ‘Melissa’ who ‘played a pivotal role in the success of the royal wedding and will be missed by everyone in the royal household,’ according to a palace insider.

While many of us know all too well the irritating feeling of being bombarded with text messages, emails or WhatsApps from colleagues outside of working hours, it seems Meghan is damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.

She was labelled a social climber when the news broke that Meghan was to marry Harry, and now that she is taking her role seriously and trying to make the most of the incredible opportunity she has to change people’s lives, she’s being called overbearing.

It’s probably an unwelcome change for staff who are used to doing things according to the age-old royal rule book, and perhaps Meghan’s energy could be channelled in a more productive way – why not manage up and provide her with a notebook for suggestions which is reviewed once a week, instead of giving her the ability to text staff.

Meghan is clearly determined to put all her effort into whatever work she is given to do, and that’s no bad thing since she’s joined a family who are often criticised for living off taxpayer’s money (remember the uproar over the cost of Eugenie’s wedding?) – perhaps Meghan is just what they need to rebrand as a hard-working group of modern royals.
