The Duchess of Sussex is due to visit the National Theatre today on her first trip to the London theatre in her official capacity as a patron. This is one of two patronages that the Queen passed on to Meghan Markle, and it’s probably for the best that it’s a younger, perhaps more street-wise royal who’ll be making a visit to the National. Because the world-renowned theatre has recently become home to a sexually provocative and violent Cate Blanchett-starring play that was so shocking, one audience member fainted.
Featuring a foursome in a car and much violence against women, the play, called When We Have Sufficiently Tortured each other is based on Samuel Richardson’s 1740 story Pamela, and is a hit amongst Blanchett fans, who've snapped up all the tickets, or are queuing from 4am each morning to buy spare tickets and get a chance to see the Oscar-winner IRL.
However, according to a young man who helped the elderly woman who’d fainted at an early preview: ‘The whole thing is a bit much, to be honest.
‘It is so in-your-face violent and so in-your-face sexual and if you are not about that life, it might come across as shocking’

I just think it’s so timeless, chic, elegant but also she takes some risks,'
Like appearing in a play where her character indulges in orgies, violence and wearing a strap on? Or like sneaking in to watch said play? It would be a shame, after all, for Meghan to have become so utterly iconic and pored over, in the space of three years, that she can't see her icon at work.
