The Real Reason Meghan Markle Wears Dark Colours As She Opens Up About Power Dressing

The Duchess of Sussex is often spotted wearing grey, black or navy garments, unlike Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth who experiment with bright shades. And there's a very interesting reason why...

Meghan Markle has been hailed a style icon among fans who are often left swooning over her enviable wardrobe, desperate to emulate her sleek outfits.

However, some eagle-eyed fans have noticed the Duchess of Sussex{ =nofollow}’s wardrobe is not as colourful as Kate Middleton or Queen Elizabeth's, who has pulled off vibrant coloured clothes, including a lime green two piece, which some would think to avoid.

Earlier this week the mother-to-be –who is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry – adorned a black dress to show off her baby bump with a camel-coloured coat when she visited Smart Works. When the royal family attended the Christmas service at St. Mary Magdalene church in Sandringham Meghan looked sensational in her all black ensemble, while the Duchess of Cambridge stood out in a full berry red ensemble.

But there is a reason behind the former Suits stars outfit choices.

Meghan, 37, has previously revealed she changes the colour of her clothes to suit her mood, which is why she favours garments in neutral shades, such as blush pink and neutral shades, as well as darker hues including grey, navy and black.

Speaking in an interview with InStyle back in 2015, Meghan discussed her Suits character, Rachel Zane, wardrobe. She said: “You’ll notice that in season two when Rachel’s [Zane] falling in love with Mike, I wear more blush tones. And season one when she’s really all about business, I wear more charcoal greys and blacks.”

Meghan went on to explain she follows the same style rules as her character when she is picking an outfit. She continued: “I think our clothes are such a reflection of how we’re feeling. If you’re in love, you’re probably going to wear things that make you feel like more romantic when you put them on. Or when you’re going through a stressful time, the same can be said for wearing things that are more monochrome or darker in tone.”

Although Meghan opts for a muted colour palette for royal outings, some believe it is to keep the attention away from her and focus on the royal duties at hand.

However, Meghan has insisted she feels more comfortable in black-coloured clothes and has hailed them her ‘power piece’ to make her feel ‘badass’ on a bad day.

She added: “If it’s the one dress that makes you feel so badass, or the one crisp button-down — whatever it is so that when you wake up on those days where you’re not really feeling going into work, you put that piece on and it’s almost like your own anthem. It can really shift the energy of your whole day.

It's safe to say whatever Meghan wears, and in whatever colour, we will want to wear it!
