Meghan Markle's 'Princess Lessons' Involve SAS Training

The Princess Diaries, this ain’t: following the official announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle will have to undergo hostage training from the SAS ahead of the royal wedding, according to security experts.

Scott Jones, the director of London-based security firm Garvian, told TMZ that Meghan’s military training ‘will last about a week,’ and will teach her how to deal with a potential hostage situation, covering ‘how to transmit a distress signal that she’s being held against her will if her captors make her record a video.’

It will also reportedly include ‘mastering micro-expressions, key words and other signals to let either her family or law enforcement know if she’s under duress from captors,’ how to ‘get out of restraints like duct tape or zip ties,’ and ‘basic psychology training on dealing with her captors.’ It is unlikely, however, to feature ‘combat or weapons training.’

SAS training is in fact standard practice for new members of the royal family. Before she became the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton underwent the same process at an SAS base in Hereford, as did her late mother-in-law, Diana.

‘If you can imagine her being put into a room, being treated as if she was a hostage, the room being stormed by the SAS, she will be put through that training,’ Alex Bomberg, a former royal aide and CEO of Intelligent Protection International, explained to The Independent following Harry and Meghan’s engagement.

‘Diana and Charles went through that training. Pretty much every senior member of the royal family has been through that training,’ he said. Although Meghan will soon have to adapt to life with round-the-clock protection, Bomberg adds that the SAS crash course focuses on ‘how to behave without close protection i.e. what they might do if things go wrong.’
