How Meghan Markle Celebrated International Women's Day

Meghan Markle is a long-standing advocate for women’s rights and a self-proclaimed feminist – and the fact that she’s about to become a member of the royal family certainly isn’t going to change that.

After lending her support to the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements at the inaugural Royal Foundation forum last week, Meghan’s latest official engagement saw her take a trip to Birmingham with her fiancé Prince Harry. Here, the royal couple marked International Women’s Day with a visit to the Stemettes, a social enterprise group which encourages and supports young women who are choosing a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

As the couple arrived at Bimingham’s Millennium Point, they embarked upon the traditional walkabout, allowing them to greet and chat with the gathered well-wishers. One fan in particular, it seems, had an especially memorable encounter with the pair. When 10-year-old Sophia Richards told Harry her plans to become an actress, he promptly introduced her to someone who has plenty of experience in that field – Meghan herself. The former Suits star was forthcoming with her advice, and even gave Sophia a hug.

‘Meghan told me that I can achieve whatever I want to achieve. And Meghan said she would like to see me on TV when I become an actress,’ she told People, adding that the meeting was ‘a dream come true. I will never forget this day.’

Once inside, Harry and Meghan joined a group of secondary school students at the Stemettes event, where they tested out virtual reality headsets (which simulated a rollercoaster ride), discussed future careers with the pupils, who plan to pursue science and maths, and sat in on a coding workshop.

Continuing to nail her royal working wardrobe, Meghan wore a coat by US brand J. Crew, cropped trousers by Alexander Wang and a roll neck white jumper by high street favourite All Saints.
