As well as being a successful actress and the fiancée of a certain Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has long been a vocal supporter of gender equality, even delivering a powerful speech on the topic to a UN conference back in 2015. Now, she’s confirmed that, yes, her husband-to-be shares her views on feminism – and we couldn’t be happier.

When the couple visited Cardiff on their first royal trip to Wales yesterday, the former Suits star told a well-wisher that Harry identifies as a feminist. ‘She was so lovely,’ 23-year-old Jessica Phillips told People. ‘I said it was really lovely to have a feminist in the royal family.’

Meghan’s response was to point at her fiancé, replying with ‘He’s a feminist too.’ Another reason to love this forward-thinking royal couple

In fact, Prince Harry has implicitly revealed his feminist beliefs before, most notably when delivering a speech at the Nepal Girl Summit in Kathmandu back in 2016. ‘While the unique challenges faced by girls is not a topic I have spoken much about in the past, I think it’s important to acknowledge something that has become obvious to me and is already known to everyone in this room,’ he said.

‘There are way too many obstacles between girls and the opportunities they deserve, whether it’s a girl in Lesotho living with HIV; or the talented young woman in Britain who doesn’t get taken seriously because of where she grew up; or the 14 year old girl forced out of school so she can get married here in Nepal; we need to acknowledge that so many countries and cultures are failing to protect the opportunities of young women and girls in the way they do for boys,’ he added, before concluding that ‘it cannot just be women who speak up for girls.'
