For Alexi Lubomirski, December 21st 2017 will surely always be a memorable date, marking the release of the stunning engagement photos he shot for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Frogmore House, which has since been revealed as the couple’s wedding reception venue. But how does one land a gig as coveted as this one? According to the fashion photographer, it’s all thanks to Instagram.

Speaking at the Daily Front Row Fashion Awards in Los Angeles, where he was presented with the Photographer of the Year title, Lubomirski revealed that he first came to Meghan’s attention through a social media connection. Describing the shoot as ‘a very surreal end to the year’ which ‘came out of nowhere,’ he explained to E! News: ‘I think one of Meghan’s friends saw me on Instagram, that I was in England during the announcement of the engagement and I was told later that this person said to her, “You should meet Alexi. He’s great. You’d love him” and that was it.’

The photographer (who, as a descendent of the Polish House of Lubomirski, can boast royal heritage himself) went on to describe the shoot as ‘one of the easiest, most joyful jobs because [the couple] were so deliciously in love.’

After providing us with yet more proof that Harry and Meghan are a perfect match, Lubomirski also weighed in on the media mini-storm surrounding Meghan’s decision to wear a Ralph & Russo gown with a sheer embellished bodice in two of the released images.

‘I was very shocked with the reaction,’ he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘To be honest, we tried on a couple of different things and that was just one that she felt comfortable in, so we weren’t really thinking, “Is it nude?” or anything. We just thought, “Feel comfortable and let’s make some nice pictures.”’ On that count, they definitely succeeded..
