Following Controversy Over Her Lavish Baby Shower, Meghan Markle Opted Out Of A Birthday Party

We all love a birthday party, right? An excuse to drink Prosecco and eat loads of cake? What's not to love?

Well, the Duchess of Sussex reportedly opted out of hosting her own birthday party this weekend

Why? All because of the backlash following her baby shower{ =nofollow}, apparently.

If you remember, loads of people were furious after Meghan’s{ =nofollow}baby shower (which was thrown by Serena Williams) in February - because a. It was in New York, and b. cost a reported £300,000.

And it seems regarding Meghan’s birthday yesterday, the royals were keen to avoid the controversy.

‘Frogmore Cottage will host a celebration for Meghan’s birthday,’ a source told The Sun. ‘The Clooneys clan will be in Villa Oleandra on Lake Como and the Sussexes will not want to be seen enjoying more of their lavish hospitality after the PR disaster backlash post the US baby shower.’

According to royal expert and commentator Omid Scobie, the pair spent the day 'quietly as a family'.

'Prince Harry will be back from Google Camp in Sicily, where he gave a speech about the fight against climate change, so they’ll be spending Meghan’s birthday quietly as a family,' he said, adding, 'The Sussexes have been so busy this year that I can imagine her birthday will simply involve a well-deserved day of rest with a few friends — and, of course, precious moments with Archie.'

It's also been reported that Meghan might have marked the big day with a visit to Balmoral castle for tea with the Queen.

‘The Queen and Prince Philip adore the couple and, of course, their new great-grandson Archie, and they have invited them to Balmoral for a few days,’ a source told The Sun last month.

‘It is testament to Meghan that she has been given this invite. It’s a huge honor. They will celebrate Meghan’s birthday, and the catering team will bake a cake to mark the occasion. Meghan may be a Duchess who can have anything she wants but the Queen is giving her a thoughtful present. It’s no secret Balmoral is Her Majesty’s favorite home and that’s why this invite is so special and heartfelt.’
