Since she started dating Prince Harry last year, Meghan Markle’s day-to-day life has changed considerably. Previously best known for her role on US show Suits, Meghan became the most Googled actress of 2016 following confirmation of her relationship with the Prince, and has since been splitting her time between filming commitments in Toronto and spending time with Harry in London.
Should Harry and Meghan’s romance continue to go from strength to strength, the actress will doubtless become one of the most photographed women in the world (see also: Kate Middleton). According to her college friend Lindsay Roth, though, Meghan hasn’t let this new level of fame change her: instead, she’s still managing to stay true to the ‘same values and priorities’ that she has always valued.
Speaking to People, Lindsay (who first met Meghan in a literature class while freshers at Northwestern University) revealed: ‘I don’t know many people who are as generous and supportive as Meg is. I think people assume that when someone gains notoriety that they change. But she’s still the same girl I met years ago, with the same values and priorities.’
‘She’s selfless, and that’s just a part of who she is and who she was raised to be. We should all strive to handle the ups and downs of our lives as gracefully, smartly, elegantly, positively, realistically and graciously as Meg has.’
Continuing her praise, Lindsay described her friends as ‘an extraordinary businesswoman, actress, writer and advocate for women and children,’ before revealing the pair’s mantra: “I choose happiness,” a ‘constant reminder to be self-aware, be uniquely you, be happy and to treat people with respect; to be kind, empathetic and to really learn from those around you in any circumstance.’
