Yesterday Meghan Markle made a solo royal visit to Brinsworth House, a retirement home for artists and entertainers in Twickenham, West London. Markle, with her background in entertainment, was in her element as she sung carols with the residents. In fact, a number of Meghan’s skills were put to use with the Duchess speaking to one resident in fluent Spanish, and participating in the arts and crafts festivities.
However, it was her calligraphy that garnered the most attention. Megan's beautiful writing, displayed upon her gold-and-red bauble creation, quickly became an internet sensation when The Sun’s Emily Andrews tweeted a photo of her work.
Her neat festive message certainly puts our rushed Christmas card scribbles to shame. Don’t feel too bad though, Meghan’s perfect penmanship is a craft she’s been working on for a while.
Prior to the Royal Wedding, prior to Harry, and prior to Suits, Meghan helped pay her bills between acting jobs by doing calligraphy. She worked at Paper Source, a small store for decorative papers and custom stationery, in Beverly Hills, and even did the invites for a number of celebrity weddings and events. "I just thought Meghan did a beautiful job," Paula Patton told Town & Country about the custom invitations and save-the-dates done by Meghan for her wedding to Robin Thicke in 2005.
Although we were aware of her previous side hustle, this is the first time we’ve seen her scribing expertise in action. Unsurprisingly, when it came to Meghan's wedding she didn't do her own stationery. Considering the 600 guests it would have been quite the task.
Nevertheless, if this new evidence is anything to go by, it seems calligraphy is much like riding a bike.
