Zooey Deschanel, who had her first child last month, is going on maternity leave from her role in New Girl soon - and Megan Fox is lined up to cover her role, according to reports.

According to EW, the actress has been signed on for a starring role during Zooey's maternity leave in a "multi-episode" arc during the show's fifth season.

The storyline will be as follows: Jess will find herself on during jury duty, which means she'll be handily off the show. During that time Fox’s character "Reagan" will rent out Jess’ room.

Reagan is apparently a “gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft.”

The show's executive producer Liz Meriwether insists that Megan is a great choice for the part:

“I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”
