Maura Higgins has once again refuted claims there’s anything romantic going on with her former Dancing on Ice professional skating partner Alexander Demetriou following his official separation from his wife.
Rumours began swirling back in January that Maura and Alex were getting a little too close, and he was photographed leaving her home shortly before announcing he and his wife Carlotta Edwards, also a DoI professional, were 'taking a break from their relationship'.
At the time, Maura insisted they were just friends, and in a recent Instagram Q&A she has continued to dismiss gossip as Alex took to his own social media to confirm that his marriage to Carlotta was over.
When a fan asked, 'What do you think about the stories the press have said about you and Alex?', Maura replied, 'Again, it doesn’t bother me. We’re in 2020 and a man and a woman still cannot just be friends. Pure sh--e, you know?'
Taking to his Instagram stories to release an official statement about their split, Alex said, 'Carlotta and I have separated. Although it saddens me that we can no longer be together, I feel this is best for both of us.'
Meanwhile, Maura also recently split from herLove Islandco-star boyfriend, Curtis Pritchard, following rumours of a 'showmance' between the pair.
'Curtis and I have made the decision to separate,' she said back in March. 'We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship. There is no easy way to get through a breakup and no bad feeling on either side.'
