Summer might be coming to an end, but our TV schedules are getting a much-needed boost. This is thanks to new Netflix thriller Hostage, which landed on our screens this week.
The action-packed show centres around the kidnapping of the British prime minister's husband, which sees the French president blackmailed - leading to a high-stakes situation that spirals out of control. As the official synopsis reads: 'The two political leaders both face unimaginable choices,' adding 'Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?'
With thriller icon Suranne Jones as an executive producer and in the show, we're certain we'll be in good hands. The show also stars Julie Delpy as Vivienne Toussaint, the French president, Corey Mylchreest as Matheo Lewis, Lucian Msamati as Kofi Adomako Ashley and Thomas as Dr Alex Anderson. Another actor starring in the show is Martin McCann. But where might you have seen him before?
Who is Martin McCann?
Martin McCann is an actor from Northern Ireland. He grew up in the Falls Road, Divis Flats area of Belfast with his brother and sister. He got his first acting experience from his mum checking for roles in local newspapers, which lead him to get roles in the stage productions of Bugsy Malone and The Crucible. He also attended the Rainbow Factory School of Performing Arts in Belfast, a cross-community project designed to bring young Catholic and Protestant children together through drama.
'I just did drama extra-curricular. I never really did drama classes at school or went to a drama school. Sometimes I wish I had done but I feel at 19 or 20 if I had went and done three years in a college somewhere, I probably wouldn’t be as far on as I am now,' he told AgendaNI.
McCann's career really began to take off in 2006 following his role in a stage production of A Clockwork Orange. This led to Richard Attenborough casting him in his 2007 film Closing The Ring. This led to McCann being recommended to Steven Spielberg, who cast him in the HBO miniseries The Pacific.
