Nooooo Mariah! Quit while you're ahead! Or, if you're ill, don't sing live for a bit until you're feeling better!

Mariah Carey kicked off her Elusive Chanteuse tour in Tokyo on Saturday, and got lynched by her fans on Twitter for not being able to sing any more. A video has surfaced and, erm, yeah it sounds pretty awful.

Someone in the audience videoed the whole performance and, while it's not great quality, you can hear that Mariah's struggling to hit the high notes and remain in key during her hits Always Be My Baby and We Belong Together.

Maybe she had a sore throat, maybe she was under the weather, but either way – her fans on Twitter were pretty unforgiving. 'Y'all. Mariah Carey really can't sing any more. That was hard to listen to' tweeted one. 'It's a wrap for Mariah Carey's singing career. You're a legend. Time to retire.'

It wasn't all her fault, though, as there were a few tech screw-ups throughout the show; the massive butterfly accidentally detached from the mic, forcing the 44-year-old to stop a song, and then she also appears to take issue with the positioning of one of the cameramen at one point, too. That aside, the main power comes from the pre-recording, auto-tuned voice in the background rather than the former powerhouse's vocals themselves. Which has got fans a bit upset.
