Marc Jacobs took a cue from the totally-still-trending #IWokeUpLikeThis meme for his spring 2015 show on the last day of New York Fashion Week, by sending every model down the runway completely barefaced.

Sure, people like to say they’re not wearing any make-up when you can totally tell they have on foundation and mascara, but in this case, there was literally no base, nothing.

Kendall-It's just 'Kendall' now-Jenner, new-favourite IT girl/model Gigi Hadid and Marc’s muse Jamie Bochert all walked in the show, wearing Ramones-ish bobs. It sounds like the easiest show to prep ever – the girls show up with clean faces and throw on a wig. Boom – off you go down that runway.

It’s seems a bit cray then, that internationally renowned make-up artist Francois Nars was backstage. And more than a little suspect. Why on earth was he there? You’ll never guess why: to put moisturiser on the models. Yes, really.

The idea behind the make-up free look was to be totally extreme, and nothing is more extreme during fashion week than a model on the runway without a scrap of make-up. The shades of the clothing in the collection were quite neutral, and the girls walked around a Pepto Bismol- pink house, so the most colour actually came from the set, Mr. Nars explained.

He jumped at the chance to do something so ground-breaking, considering it’s pretty much unheard of to let anyone walk a show working a natural face: ‘In 2014, it’s great that we are doing this. In the '60s, '50s, and '40s, women had to wear makeup. It was a rule. Today there are no rules—you can do anything you want,’ he said.
