Madonna. The Mystery. Sure, she’s still the reigning Queen of Pop after 30+ years in the spotlight. And don’t even get us started on anything she ever wore in the ‘80s (for modern interpretations, you just need to look to pretty much every major SS17 show). Heck, she’s so famous she needs no last name (FYI: it’s Ciccone). But, while there have been many musicians who have tried to emulate the star, there is only one Madonna (renaissance paintings, aside). And the woman who made us all do our best ‘Vogue’ impression is still as mystifying as she ever was in 2017.
Though some filmmakers are keen to delve deeper into her early years. Before she reached the big time. Before Desperately Seeking Susan (a vintage find on Netflix). Before some very public relationships and breakups. Before H-O-L-I-D-A-Y!
Variety first reported that a Madonna biopic 'Blonde Ambition' is in the works at Universal. The script, a first for former director's assistant Elyse Hollander, is said to detail the musicians ‘efforts in the early 1980s in New York City to get her first album released whole navigating fame, romance, and the dismissive attitude of the music industry at the time.’
But who would take the lead? Well, considering Fifty Shades of Grey's Michael De Luca will be producing it, Dakota Johnson could get dibs. She may need to have words with Madonna though.
The singer condemned the plans to make a film about her without her consent. ‘Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen,’ she warned. ‘Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool.’
