So Madonna has apparently been excused from jury duty in New York after handing in a note from her doctor.
Jury duty is something that every American over the age of 18 must do at some point in their lives, but apparently Madonna had other ideas. The mega star was supposed to appear at the Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday, but was apparently too unwell to attend. According to the New York State Unified Court System's website, there are no automatic exemptions or excuses from jury service, unless a note is provided. New York County Clerk Norman Goodman has said that his office is currently arranging Madonna's next date to appear as a member of the jury.

The exact reason for Madonna’s no-show isn't clear at the moment, but you should worry, because reports claim that the illness isn’t serious. Phew. In fact, the singer was well enough to post two Tweets – both tributes to writer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, who died this week.
To be fair to Madonna, she did answer a jury summons when she lived in Beverly Hills in 2008, where she was dismissed after four hours. Still, it's always fun to see one of the world's biggest superstars excusing herself from jury service with the same extraction technique we used to use for double swimming.
