Love Island finalist Maura Higgins spoke out about Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea's split at the TV Choice Awards.
The TV star, who came fourth place with Curtis Pritchard in the Love Island final, revealed she was 'shocked about it all', after finding out from Greg how it had ended on The Late Late Show.
Maura said hearing about their split 'wasn't the nicest thing to hear' but added, 'Amber is such a strong woman and she's independent. She will be absolutely fine.'
Former Islander Lucie Donlan who has recently rekindled her relationship with co-star Joe Garratt, also spoke out about the winning couple going their separate ways.
She said: 'I'm gutted because I didn't really expect it. It's so early on as well. I'm gutted for them.'
Amber thanked her friends for the love and support at the awards since splitting from Greg and starting her new life outside of the villa.
The winner said: 'I think because I was there for so long I had no idea what I was coming out to, so the amount of love and support I've received has been amazing.'
She went on to say: 'I think I went in the villa with about 4,000 Instagram followers then I came out with 2 million and now I've got 3 million and it's crazy and everyone recognises you, but I'm so happy.
'It makes me happy that I'm making people happy.'
Anna Vakili said how she was very surprised by their break-up, and it was 'a bit of a shock' as she knew Amber really liked Greg.
Maura said she tries to stay in touch as many as she can now the series has finished, saying, 'Obviously it's hard because we're all busy, but we're all supportive of one another which is really good.'
