Love Island’s Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish reunited on Aftersun for their first TV interview since quitting the show.

The duo sat on the sofa with host Laura Whitmore to discuss their decision to leave the villa, and their journey from lovers to exes.

Liberty admitted it was ‘hard’ to walk away from Jake but ultimately, she ‘had to put her feelings first.’

In the days before they walked out, there were questions inside and outside the villa about how genuine Jake was with Liberty.

Jake hit back at the ‘fake’ claims stating, 'I struggle to articulate my words. I told her there and then when she asked me how I felt.'

Laura Whitmore then quizzed Jake on if he had any game playing tactics to win whilst in the villa.

He strongly denied this stating, ‘If I was playing a game, I’d still be in there.’ He continued ‘That’s what got to me the most, adding that the accusations that he was fake ‘hurt’ him.

Liberty agreed adding, ‘What Jake and me had to begin with was genuine, we dealt with things differently.’

A clip was played back where Liberty tearfully told Fayethat Jake did not love her. Jake was visibly upset watching it, while Liberty looked uncomfortable. He placed his hand on her leg to comfort her.

After watching the video, he said, 'Not nice to see her like that - that’s because of me.’

Discussing the breakdown of their relationship, Laura Whitmore asked Liberty if she thought Jake gave up on their relationship too quickly.

Liberty was adamant that from that moment she couldn’t be swayed as she was already set on her decision to break up with him and leave the villa.

Reflecting on the first few weeks of their relationship, Jake said, ‘It was mint, you couldn’t fault it, the first three weeks everything was fun, it was wicked, there is not much more to say, it was good craic.’

Liberty continued, ‘As soon as I met Jake we just instantly clicked, and it went from strength to strength in the first few weeks.

‘I think we were in our honeymoon phase, and I wouldn’t change anything because it’s worked out the way it’s meant to.

She added, ‘Everything was perfect, but you have to overcome challenges and unfortunately, we weren’t able to.’

The duo agreed to stay amicable as Liberty confirmed they will ' definitely always be friends.'
