There aren't many of us who would happily admit to cheating - but then not all of us are Love Island contestants. Apart from the appalling (and, quite frankly, boring) lack of body diversity, one of the most noticeable things about the new cohort, according to early reports, is that they all seem to have ‘wandering eyes’ - something which they’re not afraid to admit, either. Oh, and there’s only five girls compared to seven guys. (Almost like producers aren’t trying to engineer drama and cheating!)
First up, Anton Danyluk - 24, and a gym owner - makes a great opening impression by saying that he’s ‘never really been loyal in any of [his] relationships’. (And he’s only sorry if he gets caught, which is just even better!) ‘My last relationship, I actually got caught cheating for the first time in my life and it changed everything for me,' he says. 'I saw how much it hurt her and what it did to her. So, for me going to into Love Island, it’s going to be the biggest test of my life. I know that if I am loyal to someone in that space of time when hot girls are being thrown in all the time then I know I can be loyal to them.’
As we previously reported, Curtis Pritchard, Strictly’s AJ Pritchard’s 23-year-old little brother, will also be joining the series and – you guessed it – has been a bit of a cheater, too. ‘I will be loyal,’ he assures us, however. ‘I have cheated before, but that isn’t why I split with that girlfriend. I will always be loyal from now on.’
But it's not just the boys who are admitting to past misdemeanors. Lucie Donlan - a 21-year-old surfer who claims she is more of a ‘more of a guy’s girl than a girl’s girl’ - also admits to previous cheating. ‘Have I got a wandering eye? Probably, yeah. I have cheated in the past because I’ve got on with someone so much better. It was a few years ago, I wouldn’t do it again.’
Firefighter Michael Griffiths, 27, also owned up to infidelity. ‘I’ve been cheated on plenty of times but I am loyal,’ he says, before adding, ‘I think I’ve cheated once but it was more of a revenge cheat’. Same with 26-year-old Amy Hart, who said, ‘I’ve never been cheated on, I’ve never had a proper boyfriend. When I was seeing a guy though, he wasn’t being very nice to me, I went on a night out and met someone and had a cheeky snog but I think if he was nicer to me then I wouldn’t have done it. I’m sure he was seeing a lot of other people.’
Not all of the teeth-whitening sponsorship deals hopefuls have cheated though. ‘When I’m committed to somebody, I’ve only got eyes for them,’ says the very smiley looking Joe Garratt, 22. ‘I’ve never cheated and I’ve never been cheated on. I’m not that type of guy. If I’ve got eyes for somebody then I commit to them.’ Meanwhile, Callum Macleod, 28, also states that he hates cheats. ‘I hate cheating, I can’t stand it,’ he says. ‘I don’t understand why people want to do it. I’m all for being single, having a laugh and doing what you’ve got to do but I don’t understand why you would want to hurt someone at the same time.’
Well, with this many cheaters - this season is certainly going to be interesting.
