15 years ago Louis Theroux’s documentary, When Louis Met Jimmy, was released. The documentary saw Louis quiz former Top Of The Pops host Jimmy Savile about the persistent rumours of sexual misconduct that surrounded him (which, after Savile's death, were found to be true, and far more widespread than anyone had realised).
Last year, Louis announced he would be making a second Jimmy Savile documentary, so he could delve even deeper into the presenter's murky life.
All we knew, according to the BBC, was that he would attempt to understand ‘the personality of a man who was able to commit such a spectrum of sexual crimes, how someone he once called a friend used his celebrity status to commit these crimes; and how the power of this public image afforded him immunity.’ Well, now we know more – and you can watch it sooner than you’d think.
The documentary is set to air this Sunday on BBC at 9pm. So cancel whatever plans you have, because this comes first. The 75-minute film will follow Louis as he chats to some of Savile's victims, co-workers and will re-examine moments from the original film, along with never before seen footage. Louis will also explore his own conscience and how both himself and the press were blinded by Savile's presenter facade.
If you haven't wacthed the original documentary, we highly reccomend you do so in the meantime, because this is going to be all everyone is talking about for weeks to come...or until Louis Therxou's new documentary comes out anyway.
