The nation’s gay elite queued round the block last night for the launch of the revolutionary new gay dating app, Chappy at Phonica Records store in the heart of Soho. Founded by Made In Chelsea’s Ollie Locke and backed by Bumble, the feminist dating app the product offers gentlemen the swiping option of ‘Mr Right’ or ‘Mr Right Now’ – or – ‘Mr Who Knows.’
Dressed in a bespoke Joshua Kane polka dot suit, the ever-dashing Mr Locke was passionate about his new business venture, telling Grazia, ‘It’s about creating a safe space for the gay community and most importantly giving men options which we feel weren’t necessarily available on other apps. We’re not slagging off other apps – sex is fabulous! – but Chappy is about choice.’ While Ollie is of course on the app himself, he has yet to find his Mr Right, but there were certainly plenty of handsome chappies to choose from. ‘I’ve never seen so much talent in one room!’ he exclaimed.
Although arguably the most devastatingly good-looking of guests, Rugby superstar Thom Evans, was one of the only straight gents in attendance! Henry Conway, as resplendent as ever, made us hoot with laughter with his wonderful gossip, DJ supermeo Jodie Harsh ruled the decks with some banging tunes, and there was also a stonking set from KStewart. We talked red carpet frocks with designer Emilio Barba of Kolchagov Barba who is heading to Cannes to dress the A-list at the film festival, but wouldn’t reveal who. And Ollie’s close friends, Lottie Moss and Ella Eyre, made up the VIP squad, whereas his heavily pregnant BFF and MIC co-star Binky had to stay at home with her tootsies up.
But by far the best entertainment of the night came from a conflab with Ollie’s fabulous mother, the former BBC radio presenter Sarah and the Queen’s hairdresser, Ian Carmichael. Ian told us all about his recent trip to the Palace where he was made a Member of the Royal Victoria Order for over two decades of service to Her Majesty’s tresses! ‘You have to curtsey to me now!’ joked the Scotsman.
