What we find very refreshing about Lorde is that she totally embraces her imperfections. Having previously said she looks like* The Lord Of The Rings*' Gollum when she sings, and uploaded photos of herself wearing cream for her spots (she is 17, after all) she's got a really charming way of poking fun at herself and owning her flaws.

And this has shone through in a recent tweet, where she compares two photos of her together. One has been airbrushed – by a fan, by a photographer, by whoever, we don't know – to make it look like her skin is porcelain-smooth. And another is just normal Lorde, slight teenage acne and all. She commented underneath:

It's not quite as catchy as Beyoncé's Flawless, where she implores 'I woke up like this/I woke up like this/ We flawless, ladies, tell 'em/Say I/ I look so good tonight' but it is basically the same message – that we're all pretty flawed but at the same time that's what makes us so beautiful and so actually we're not that flawed at all. And isn't that just a lovely thing to think even when the world has its gaze upon you day in, day out and you've got the skin of any other teenager in the world?

Aw, Lorde. As if you just got better.
