Lorde is totally over teenagers being treated like second-class citizens and thinks that grown-ass people need to give them a little bit more credit where it’s due.

‘A lot of people seem to think that all teenagers are super-misguided and not at all ambitious,’ she told the Standard’s ES Magazine. ’Such a high proportion of the people my age I know are super-driven, super-focused and super-creative in a way I haven’t seen a lot of adults being.’

‘Teenagers are a lot wiser than you think’, the 17-year-old continued. ‘They have so many resources to make them wise now,’ she said. ‘But it will always be a constant that teenagers will not be as emotionally wise as adults. You can be as sophisticated and precocious as you want, but you can’t fake experience. That’s what I find endearing about the art that teenagers make. There’s something about that intensity.’

She thinks that girls are smart enough to decide for themselves if their clothes are too revealing or not, and that parents who freak out about scantily clad celebrities should chill the eff out: ‘People should stop worrying about their daughters. I don’t see a female without clothing as a terrible influence. There are worse things. Shooting people. Glorifying violence.’

The singer also revealed some serious respect for Rihanna, citing her abundance of confidence in being a woman. ‘You can’t not look at Rihanna,’ she said. ‘I would buy anything Rihanna sold me. The way Rihanna embodies being a sexual woman ... She’s so fearless and confident, I just love her.’

As previously reported, Lorde’s parents got engaged last week after being together for almost 30 years. Her dad popped the question to her mum while on a trip to Niagara Falls after Lorde’s appearance at the Much Music Awards in Canada.
