The new face of MAC Cosmetics, Lorde spoke about make-up and a whole load of other things for the make-up brand.

First off, she explained that she doesn't normally work for brands unless they're something she properly believes in. 'When they approached me, I jumped at the chance. It’s rare that you find a brand that feels so perfect. I hate weird product placements and endorsements that feel uncomfortable,' she told Women's Wear Daily. So, no bizarre Japanese adverts for trouser presses in her future, then.

But more sweetly, Lorde – real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor – also credited her family with keeping her grounded. 'I just try not to be too much of a d--k with people or my mom would be like…' she said, before pulling a face. 'And my sister [growing up] would be like, "Can you just shut up?"'

And just like she'll accept an award by reading a speech from her phone, as she did at the recent Billboard music awards, she'll also write her song lyrics down on her phone. A bit like how we'll write stupid things our mates say when we're drunk, just loads more productive. 'I like lyrics that have a lot of strong visual imagery, because that makes me see a place in my head and that’s important,' she shared. 'As for the melody, I carry my phone around and record lots of sounds and see if anything’s actually good, and then I try and build on it.'

Plus, once again, she bigged up Kanye West, saying how he influenced her as a child. And yep, she really was a child – Through The Wire came out ten years ago and she's just 17 now, so, our high-esteemed maths tells us she was seven when he first came along. She said: 'Because I think his vision, how closed-off he is in his vision — he has a very strong sense of himself. Grace Jones, too – she’s an icon and so badass.' As indeed are you, lovely Lorde.
