Lizzo might soon be set to appear in Hustlers, but there’s another upcoming film we all want to her to star in - as the popstar has made it no secret that she wants to play Ursula in the upcoming live action The Little Mermaid. Zendaya is reportedly being lined up to play the film’s leading role of Ariel, and even though Melissa McCarthy is being touted for the role of Ursula - Lizzo has been making her case to play the film’s villain. And we're so here for it.
Quoting an article about McCarthy’s talks with a pleading-faced emoji on Twitter, the singer followed it up by reposting an iconic video of her dressed up as the evil witch singing Pool Unfortunate Souls from last Halloween. And as the video shows, she is more than qualified to take the role.
Despite her dreams for the role, Lizzo met Melissa - who is said to be in talks to play the role - last month at the MTV Movie and TV Awards last month. Posting a candid snap of the pair, the comedy actress wrote, ‘Hopefully when I grabbed @lizzobeeating and told her I loved her, 1 per cent of her magic was transferred to me so now by osmosis I am 1 per cent that b***h.’
But there’s still time for the singer to persuade bosses as the upcoming remake will begin production in April 2020, which will feature songs from the original 1989 animated classic, as well as new music.
Hustlers - a true story which focuses on strippers who band together to turn the tables on their wealthy Wall Street male clients - is released in September. Alongside the musician, it will also star Cardi B and Jennifer Lopez.
