Little Mix have had a very good week. The group have just dropped their remix of Confetti, with rapper Saweetie - their first single as a trio after the departure of Jesy Nelsonand Tayce for the music video, which also saw Little Mix dance in drag as a boyband. Now, the group have just announced some life-changing news - Leigh-Anne Pinnock is pregnant.
Announcing the news, alongside some gorgeous photos with her fiance Andre Gray, she wrote: 'We've dreamed about this moment for so long and we can't believe the dream is finally coming true... we can't wait to meet you.' Band mate Jade Thirwall commented, '😭😭😭😭 love you so much 💚 look at this family 🥺😭💚💫' Meanwhile, Perrie Edwards added, 'I can’t stop staring at these pictures. You’re a vision. Ily both so much! CONGRATULATIONS my beautiful sister! ♥️'
First and foremost, congratulations to Leigh-Anne and Andre. But along with the thousands of messages of support, some have been asking whether the pregnancy means if Little Mix are over, which is, of course, ridiculous. (For starters, would you ask that if a member of a boyband was announcing that they were about to have a child? Probably not, no.)
'Happy for Leigh but also feeling sentimental cause this means little mix are over,' one person tweeted. 'WE DIDNT EVEN GET A FULL YEAR OF TRIO MIX.' Another added, 'happy for Leigh but also feeling sentimental rn cause this means Little Mix are officially over.' And another account said, 'I'm gonna tell you right now. The band is over. If you're still holding onto some hope that Little Mix will be superstars as a trio, you should let that go. Kids change everything. The next tour (if it even happens) is basically a farewell tour.'
Of course, kids do change your life - but women can still have jobs in the entertainment industry if they are pregnant or have a child, just like other jobs. And you don't lose your musical talent just because you've had a baby! Think Beyonce, Madonna, Cardi B, Adele, Paloma Faith, Björk. It's sexist to think that a woman can no longer be successful in the charts after having a child. Because obviously men aren't held to the same standards.
Considering that Little Mix's account shared the photos as well, we doubt this means they're over as a trio. When Jesy left the group, people were quick to make jokes about the band being over - but Jade, Leigh and Perrie stepped up, while wishing Jesy all the best. We're certain that, if they want to, they're going to continue being one of the best chart acts around.
