Emily In Paris was one of last year's most influential TV shows. The Netflix series made us suddenly wonder if we should move to the French capital (we shouldn't), if we can pull of a bucket hat (we can't) and if we could look as gorgeous as Lily Collins if we just found the right eyebrow specialist (we couldn't). But the influence of Emily In Paris has also been felt in unexpected realms: it has even impacted the art world.
Cast your mind back to 2020, when plucky young Emily arrived in Paris and almost immediately fell head over heels for Gabriel, the hot chef who lives in her apartment building. Alas: this meeting kicked off a world of drama, as she soon discovered that he was in a relationship with Camille, a blonde beauty who showed Emily nothing but kindness and support. At one point, Emily plays the third wheel on a group trip to Atelier des Lumieres and its Van Gogh exhibition, a striking show from Culturespaces where you can walk among the great artist's work, with his paintings projected against a giant space. Naturally, it's a perfect place for anyone keen to show off their supposed cultural prowess across their social media feeds.
It's now clear that Emily's Van Gogh connections also blur into real life: Lily Collins herself was just at the opening of the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit in Chicago.
Now, Brits will be able to recreate Emily's romantic messes themselves, as an exhibition with a similar vibe is coming to London. 'Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 360º digital art exhibition in London that invites you to step into the universe of the Dutch genius Vincent Van Gogh' the website reads. 'It is brought to you by the organisers of a collection of widely successful exhibitions present in cities across Europe, Asia and the Americas.'
The UK exhibition, which is not affiliated with the exhibit seen in Emily in Paris or the one now in Chicago, arrives in London in October, but is already sold out until 2022. While there's no official steer on why, we have a feeling that its popularity comes down to Emily's influence.
Don't despair if you are wedded to the idea of becoming one with Starry Night: there is still availability in January and February. But you'll want to move fast. The power of Emily In Paris cannot be underestimated. You can book ticketshere.
