Lily Allen might be all-singing and all-dancing, but she hasn’t done that much acting as yet. The thing getting in her way? Her brother, Alfie. Seriously.
She explained that she was offered a part in Game of Thrones but had to turn it down. She was worried about playing the role of Yara Greyjoy – the army commander sister of Theon Greyjoy, played by her IRL brother Alfie Allen – because she would have had to get incesty with him. The role – which eventually went to Gemma Whelan – sees Alfie’s character, who hasn’t seen his sister in years, coming on very strong with her as she gives him a horse-ride up to their dad’s castle.
‘I've been asked to do a* Game of Thrones* cameo, they asked me if I’d be interested in playing Theon’s sister, and I felt uncomfortable because I would have had to go on a horse and he would have touched me up and shit,’ Lily told a Reddit AMA. ‘Once they told me what was entailed, I said no thanks.’
It’s not the full-on incest that we’ve seen elsewhere in the cult HBO show (no spoilers, don’t worry), but it’s not exactly the foray into acting she’d like to make. She did say she’d be up for doing something musical in the show, appearing as a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it guest: ‘I would be open to doing a musical cameo like Sigur Rós.’
It’s saying something, though, that the only other big acting gig she’s ever had was in medieval royal biopic Elizabeth. She played a lady-in-waiting, watching on as Cate Blanchett and Joseph Fiennes did a camp dance with each other, and then giggling with Emily Mortimer and Kelly MacDonald as Richard Attenborough asks some rude questions about the state of Elizabeth’s bedsheets. You can watch it here. It’s actually very Game of Thrones-y.
Other great things Lily said in the AMA?
When asked if she asked Kanye West before naming her album Sheezus after Kanye’s Yeezus, she replied: ‘No. Just like he didn’t ask Jesus.’
When asked ‘What is the one weird thing you do when you are alone?’, she replied: ‘Masturbate. But that’s not weird.’
And then, when asked how she found her collaboration with T-Pain, she said: ‘I’ve never met him or had any communication with him. So the collaboration was perfect.’ Zing!
