Which is why she's back in the music world. For selfish reasons, we like it that way…

When it comes to motherhood, on rages the argument; women can have it all, women can’t have it all, women should pick a career first, they should settle down and have kids first, women should juggle a million things, women should just forget everything and opt out…when really, the whole point of modern day motherhood is that women should have the right to choose without judgment.

And that's why we love the fact that Lily Allen has unapologetically explained why she gave up her three-year mum hiatus from music. ‘Why did I choose to come back? I ran out of money! No, I'm joking! I thought I'd be a really happy mum just sitting at home, playing with my kids, that was my dream,’ she told a French radio stationover the weekend.

But the singer said she wasn’t cut out for life as a housewife as toddlers don’t make for the most talkative company. ‘I love my children, but I'm a very impatient, busy person naturally so two babies, neither of them can talk, it was quite boring! Staying at home all day talking to people that can't talk back. I didn't realise how much of a creative person I am and that I need somewhere to put my creativity.’ (This despite having won three Ivor Novellos and a Brit Award, fyi.)

Still, this time around, she won’t be writing about exes’ inability to sustain erections or having to wallow around in the wet patch after bad sex, because she’s got the kids to think about: ‘When I write music now I'm conscious that I have two children and they're going to hear it,’ she continued. ‘I can't be too sexy or gross or rude because that would be embarrassing for them. It's a different kind of me, but there are still the same elements.’

We’re in favour. With catchy songs like* Hard Out Here* and Air Balloon brightening up our charts, we think her creative urges are definitely best put to music – and, of course, that snazzy nail art she’s got going down, too.
