Lily Allen has a new album out so she has a lot of promo to do. In the space of two days, she was at New York’s prestigious dress-fest The Met Ball, Miley Cyrus’s gig at London’s O2 arena and then, um, the centre chair at Loose Women. Bringing along a Miley Cyrus jumper for Janet Street-Porter to wear, she spoke about how much she enjoyed the former Hannah Montana star’s gig and how she doesn’t really think Miley needs to be a role model. Which is basically what we thought after seeing the eye-meltingly radical performance.
Most importantly, though, Lily spilled how much it costs for an ordinary, non-famous punter to go along to the Met Ball. Hold your breath, because it’s more than the average UK salary. ‘Chanel invited me as their guest on condition I wore one of their dresses. Apparently, it’s £25,000 for a ticket,’ she said with her trademark bluntness.
Yikes! Luckily, anyone paying that amount of cash would have been treated to the priceless moment when Lily met Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. According to Lily, the frowny-faced rapper said he thought her decision to call her album Sheezus – after his album, Yeezus – was ‘dope’, and Kim explained that as Lily’s taken her title, she’s been left without a nickname. Doing an impression of the American reality star, Lily explained to ITV1’s finest round table of chatterboxes: ‘It’s so funny because before you announced your album he used to call me Sheezus!’
Saying that, the Met Ball wasn’t exactly her favourite place to be. When asked if she actually enjoys these sorts of events, she replied: ‘You know what, it’s really lovely to be invited to those things, but it’s not like a night out with your mates. It’s not fun. Everyone’s like, “Where’s the camera?” and everyone’s a bit stiff.’
She also went over her cheeze-us shame – when she was papped leaving a cab on the way back from the Met Ball with some cheesy pizza grease on her Balenciaga gown: ‘I bought that dress the same day. It was so expensive as I bought it for myself as Sheezus had just gone to number one on iTunes and then there was this massive stain on it, on this suede dress!’
Luckily for Lily, with Sheezus still in at the top spot of the iTunes charts, she might be able to afford a couple more of those dresses very soon.
