Lily Allen has marked nine months of sobriety with an Instagram selfie taken from lockdown. The singer, who rose to fame with her debut hit Smile, has shared the milestone with her 1.2 million followers, adding that removing alcohol from her life has had a beneficial effect on her body. '9 months sober and the beginning of an ab is appearing', she wrote. 'Very pleased. Still can’t make my bed though.' She looks happy and healthy in black athleisure wear, her four poster bed in the background.
Lily has been frank about her struggles with drugs and alcohol over the years. Back in 2018, she described a dependence on alcohol as stemming from a decreased reliance on drug use. ‘I never really had been a drinker before', she told GQ. 'I always had been a drug taker, and the drinking was an accessory to doing drugs. I realised, “Oh, fuck, I haven’t taken any drugs for ages, but I’m drinking a lot.” ‘I was drinking a bottle of Grey Goose a day. It was really bad.’
‘I lost my house and my kids started to feel really distant and I broke up with my husband and started to realise [drinking] probably wasn’t working.’
She has also written about her struggles in her book, My Thoughts Exactly. In it, she revealed that Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow had encouraged her to seek help.
Now, she and her partner - actor David Harbour - are in lockdown with her children Marnie and Ethel. She has been wearing a ring on her engagement finger - look carefully and you'll see it in this new selfie - but they have not commented on the resulting speculation.
Just yesterday, she bared almost all in a suggestive selfie, in which she said she needed affirmation.
Congratulations on a formidable milestone Lily! Now, make that bed! Just kidding.
