Liam Payne has said that he considered taking his own life during his time in One Direction{ =nofollow}. The singer, who became a part of 1D on the X Factor in 2010 aged just 16, spoke candidly on an upcoming show with Ant Middleton, saying fame ‘nearly killed him’.

‘For some certain circumstances I’m quite lucky to be here still,’ he said on Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking (via The Sun). ‘There are times when that level of loneliness and people getting into you every day, it’s like, “When will this end?” That’s almost nearly killed me a couple of times.’

When asked whether he had ever experienced suicidal thoughts, Liam said: '‘Yeah, when I’ve been in a bad place. It’s one hundred per cent, you know. There’s no point denying it — it’s definitely been on the menu a couple of times in my life.’

‘There’s only one thing you control within that situation and that is you. Just do today. Get on with that bit and then there’ll be another hurdle in a few months, a few weeks or maybe even the next day.’

Liam has previously been open about his mental health, telling Men’s Health Australia about the effect touring had on his well being. 'When you’re doing hundreds and hundreds of [concerts] and it’s the same 22 songs at the same time every single day, even if you’re not happy, you’ve got to go out there,' he said. 'It’s almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume I was pissed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on.'

If you are struggling with your mental health you should speak to your GP. If you are having suicidal thoughts, you should go to A&E. You can call the Samaritans on 116 123, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - or email them.****__
