It looks like Lena Dunham’s about to have frequent rendezvous with her hair stylist and colourist, as she’s only gone and dyed her hair platinum and cut it into a bowl!
Lena unveiled her new blunt ’do on her Instagram over the weekend, captioning it ‘change is good.’ Switching up her hair is becoming something of a tradition; she chopped her long hair into a crop after filming season two of Girls, and this new look happened right after she wrapped season four.
Her last haircut was inspired by Carey Mulligan and while we have yet to hear where the inspo came from, it feels almost like a modern version of Joanna Lumley’s ‘Purdey’ haircut – the one she sported in the ’70s TV show The New Avengers.
Her long-term commitment to the colour and style remains to be seen, but she’s not afraid to get it messed up, as was made evident when she took on the Ice Bucket Challenge. In case you've been under a rock for the past few weeks, it's a phenomenon that’s gone viral this summer and involves dumping a bucket of ice water over one’s head before nominating friends to take the challenge.
The challenge is done in conjunction with making a donation to the ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association. So far this summer the ALS has received $13.3 million in donations. The viral campaign is solely responsible for the dramatic increase; last year donations were just $1.7 million during the same period.
After pouring the bucket of freezing water over her head, Lena nominated her Girls co-stars Zosia Mamet, Allison Williams and Andrew Rannells to take the challenge. Lena herself was nominated by Taylor Swift and actress Jaime King.
