Lena Dunham has revealed her secret to creating the perfect Halloween outfit. In the latest issue of her online newsletter Lenny, Lena writes that the most successful costumes are 'classic but topical, sexy but funny, not too ugly and not too obscure, perfect conversation starters and ideal photo-ops.'

So. Now you know.

After regaling us with stories (and pictures, which are hilarious) of previous Halloween costume faux pas, she reveals that this year she’s 'finally nailed it,' opting for a 'newsy, sexy and cool' Planned Parenthood doctor outfit.

The Girls writer and star has made her views on Planned Parenthood, the controversial US reproductive health clinics that provide free access to healthcare and abortions, extremely clear.

Earlier this month, she wore a woolly jumper emblazoned with a knitted womb to a Planned Parenthood conference in LA, which she spontaneously auctioned off to the tune of $4000, which of course she donated to Planned Parenthood.

And last year she designed a limited edition tshirt in support of the 2014 ‘Women are Watching’ Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which was sported by awesome ladies like Ellen Page, Mindy Kaling and Sarah Silverman.

Let’s hope she gets a better response this year then with the ill fated “fancy lady” outfit of ’92, in which she went home early, in tears, after being told by a serious meanie that 'fancy lady isn’t even a real costume.'
