After it emerged that Laura Prepon, one of the breakout stars of Orange Is The New Black, was a Scientologist, rumours have gone into overdrive. First of all it was claimed her religion wouldn't allow for her to play a lesbian on the show, which meant she'd be leaving the hit prison show after the first series. It looks like this is nonsense (thoughsmartly referenced in the second series' trailer).
But there's also the rumour doing the round that her and Tom Cruise, who is basically the dwarf king of Scientology, are a thing. Because obviously when any woman becomes a Scientologist, the first thing that happens is she gets paraded in front of the dwarf king, and he decides if he wants to take her as a wife (maybe. We may have made that bit up).
However, she's gone on record to deny this. 'It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, [like], apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now. And apparently he doesn't want me doing the show because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist,' she told SheKnows.com: 'This is false; where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me.'
We're not sure if Laura is totally denying being a Scientologist, but, for the record, we can't actually find an interview of her talking about Scientology. She does, however, quite like the level of detail attributed to hers and Tom's fake relationship, though: 'I have no idea where it came from. I don’t know how we ended up “together.”’
'I’m flattered because I think he’s hot so I’m like, “Oh, that’s nice,” and apparently he’s very gentlemanly with me,' she told The Daily Beast**: 'Apparently we get along great and he knows that I have a favourite bottle of wine that I didn’t even know I had.'
Most importantly, because we love Alex Vause more than is healthy, Laura will be in season two of *OITNB. *It will only be on for four episodes because of a 'scheduling conflict', but Laura promises to return: 'If we get a season three, I’ll be in every episode. I totally missed the show. It sucks, but there’s only one of me, and there’s only so much time in the day.'
She continued: 'I’m glad that I’m returning because I missed the girls and it sucked not being there.'
Remember, guys, get the snacks in and prepare for no sleep on the 6th of June, because that's when Orange Is The New Black Series Two arrives on Netflix.
