Lana Del Rey seems to take herself very seriously, always playing the act of a slightly lost post-vamp Hollywood siren who carries her fragility like others would a handbag. But here’s hoping that she still knows how to make a joke – we sort of hope that she wasn’t being sincere when she said it was ‘annoying’ that none of the men in the music industry she’d slept with had managed to get her a job.
Despite having a song on her new album. Ultraviolence, called Fucked My Way Up To The Top, she says that sleeping around for gigs has never been part of her ascent to pop stardom, ‘I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry,’ she told Complex in their August issue, before adding, ‘But none of them helped me get my record deals, which is annoying.’
We’re mostly sure she is joking when she says it’s annoying, because, look, she’s got herself a record deal.
Then, when asked about the lead song from the album, which is a track including the line ‘he hit me and it felt like true love’, she carefully responded, ‘I like a physical love. I like a hands-on love. [Pauses.] How can I say this without getting into too much trouble? I like a tangible, passionate love. For me, if it isn’t physical, I’m not interested.’
Looks like she knows how to be serious when that the moment comes around; something tells us she’s nowhere near as scatter-brained as her coquettish persona would have you think.
