Lana Del Rey has taken a bit of a lambasting recently. First, the Guardian released an audio clip of the 28 year-old saying she wished she was dead and then Frances Bean Cobain – who’s own father took his life at only 27 – came out to call her remarks‘fucking not’ cool.
Well, they say bad news comes in threes, and Lana has now confirmed that she has split from her boyfriend of three years, Barrie-James O'Neill. Lana has been dating the Scottish musician since 2011, and last year rumours were even circulating that the couple were engaged. But in an interview with Switzerland's 20 Minuten newspaper, Lana has admitted to calling quits on the relationship while he deals with some issues. She said:
‘We are currently not together. He is a wonderful person. But there are some things with which he has to deal. I will not explain it in detail. This was hard on our relationship, I no longer felt free. We'll see how it goes.'
A few weeks ago, Lana denied reports they were about to tie the knot and talked about some of the difficulties she faced in her relationship, saying:
‘He has changed me in ways that I didn’t expect.
‘On the one hand, I have everything I’ve dreamed of in terms of a soul connection – it’s almost telepathic.
‘But I would be lying if I said it wasn’t difficult. He is a much darker character than most people I’ve ever met.”
Which is kind of foreboding, isn’t it? Regardless of what you think of her comments in the Guardian, break-ups are always shitty, so let's hope she’s got some pals around to pour Pinot Grigio down her neck by the bucketload and take her out dancing. 'Tis the only remedy.
