Lady Kitty Spencer, niece of the late Princess Diana and cousin to Harry and William, recently shared in an interview with Marie Claire Australia, that after appearing at Harry and Meghan’s wedding last May, she gained a staggering 500k followers on Instagram.

Any royal and royal-adjacent watchers would have been familiar with the 28-year-old model and philanthropist. She grew up away from the spotlight in South Africa, spending time between there and London when her parents Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, and former fashion model Victoria Lockwood divorced in 1997. But for many people around the world, their first introduction to Kitty Spencer was at her first cousin’s wedding where she topped several best dressed lists for her beautiful green hand-painted Dolce and Gabbana Alta Moda corseted dress.

After the wedding, Lady Kitty said she woke up to half a million new followers.

“I thought I was in someone else’s account,” she told Marie Claire. “I turned off my phone – it was a bit overwhelming. I felt like someone was watching me!”

Her new followers would get to see posts from fashion week as Lady Kitty has walked the runway several times for Dolce and Gabbana; sailing trips in Capri, days at Ascot and at the polo and even nostalgic snaps from Lady Kitty’s childhood. She described that childhood she’s described as “idyllic” and “wholesome”, recognising that it may not have been so had she grown up primarily in London.

As for her new followers, it seems Lady Kitty is now over the shock and is adjusting to all the extra focus. She told Marie Claire, “I’m lucky, I get lovely messages.” “It takes a lot to ruffle my feathers, and it’s not going to be a negative Instagram comment,” she added.
