Ever since it was announced that Bradley Cooper was to make his directorial debut, there have been rumours flying around about who will play the leading lady.
Beyoncé reportedly turned down the role when the film's budget couldn't match her demands, leading to the project nearly been pulled altogether.
But with Hollywood stars Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand having made the leading ingénue legendary, and the film itself having been re-invented three times, it’s no wonder finding a female lead has been so difficult. But who better than the original showgirl herself, Lady Gaga?
The singer has confirmed that she will star as the young actress set to fall head over heels for a rich love interest, played by none other than Bradley Cooper. And with this revelation, we wouldn’t have minded auditioning for the role ourselves…
It is not the first time Lady Gaga has taken to the acting sphere. She wowed audiences with small roles in cult show The Sopranos and crime film, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. And who can forget her Golden Globe-winning performance in 2015’s American Horror Story: Hotel?
It seems Lady Gaga's serenading skills will come into play for Cooper’s film as she will also compose and perform a new soundtrack for the film. Such convenient timing too, as she recently took to Twitter to announce the release of her new single, Perfect Illusion, set to drop in September.
With such a strong female lead and Cooper in the directorial hot seat, Warner Bros president of Creative Development and WW Production Greg Silverman is undoubtedly excited about the project. Silverman told Deadline, ‘For those of us lucky enough to watch him (Cooper) work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director’.
He continued, ‘We are honoured that he is doing it, here, at his home - Warner Bros - and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born’.
