Lady Gaga’s gone and got herself inked again, but this time it’s on her armpit. That classic spot for tattoos.
Posting pics and a video of herself getting it done to Instagram, the singer has opted for a paisley design with ‘Mother Monster’ written underneath as a tribute to her fans, and also to mark the fifth anniversary of the release of her FAME album.
Not sure if it’s the purple ink or the uncomfortable position she’s lying in, but it looks extremely painful. A lot more painful than when she dyed her armpit hair turquoise, but a lot more permanent.

It’s the 28 year old’s 17th tattoo – but all of them are on the left hand side of her body. ‘My father asked that I remain on one side slightly normal, so I only have my tattoos on my left side. He’s asked I don’t have any more on my right side,’ she said in a 2011 Google Q&A. ‘I think he sees that as my “Marilyn Monroe” side.’ While the rest of her is known as the ‘Iggy Pop’ side.
Gaga is touring the UK at the moment, and threw a party on Monday night in Manchester’s All Star Lanes to celebrate the finale of her artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball in Paris later this week.
Armpit tattoos seem to be on the up at the mo, with Inked Mag running a gallery on their site over summer – they say it ‘hurts more than you can imagine’, though, so maybe think twice before getting it done.
Although, on the plus side, it’s one of those places you can easily hide from your boss, gran, or other people who’d have an averse reaction to the fact you got inked. And it’s a bit more creative and interesting than the classic three stars on your ankle (yep, we regret them!). Considering the pain she’s presumably going through, we’re pretty impressed with Gaga’s stoic expression – and the fact she got a tribute to her fans tattooed on her body. We’d probably be screaming in agony but, hey, she’s a pro.
