Pundits and commentators have long suggested that Harry and Meghan’s move to the US and retirement from their senior royal roles could lead to a political career, but the couple have focused on charity and family. But Lady Colin Campbell, the I’m A Celebrity! Get Me Our Of Here contestant with links to royal circles, says it is more than a maybe.

‘I know the Duchess of Sussex has political ambitions and I’ve been told that one day she wants to run for President’, Lady Colin tells Mail Online. ‘I think everything she is doing, leaving the Royal Family and moving back to California is part of her plan, and she has taken Harry along with her.’

Lady Colin is on the promo trail ahead of the release of her new book, Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, and while she has vowed to be balanced she seems to have made it clear that she is no fan of the actress-turned-duchess. In an interview with The Sunday Times, she said that Meghan has ‘squandered’ the ‘most wonderful opportunity’ by stepping back from their life in the UK. She also claimed that Meghan asked to leave a garden party held to celebrate Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, because she was ‘bored’. ‘We were all horrified,’ Lady Colin recalls. ‘It was a warning sign Meghan was not going to adjust as well as she’d hoped.’

According to the book’s publishers, we can expect impressive levels of access. ‘With unique breadth of insight Lady C goes behind the scenes, speaking to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unexpected royal story since Edward VIII's Abdication’, the press material reads. 'She highlights the dilemmas involved and the issues that lurk beneath the surface, as to why the couple decided to step down as senior royals.’

That said, Lady Colin has not spoken with either Harry or Meghan as part of her process. In an interview on YouTube, she even claimed that Harry and Meghan tried to influence the direction of the book, alleging that the pair were behind calls she received from 'mutual friends'. But she has also promised that the book delivers a 'completely balanced picture', and that there are positive stories, despite what she personally thinks.

The publication comes mere weeks ahead of the much-anticipated release of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, which – unlike Lady Colin’s tome - has the backing of the royal pair. Written by journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, it is due for release on 11 August. Reports today stated that the book was amid redrafts, but this has been denied by Omid himself.
