Kristen Stewart has revealed she was told to tone down public displays of affection with her girlfriend in order to bag mainstream roles.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, the 29-year-old, who dated both men and women, explained how being open about her sexuality might have been detrimental to her career. She told the magazine, ‘I have fully been told, “If you just do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie"', adding that she '[doesn't] want to work with people like that.’

In the interview, Kristen opts not to label her sexuality – and she describes some of the prejudice that can unfortunately come with making that decision. ‘There are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote "lesbian",’ she explains.

‘But you also don’t identify as a quote unquote "heterosexual". And people like to know stuff, so what the fuck are you?’

Luckily, there are a whole new wave of stars who refuse to hide their sexuality – whether they put a label on that, or not. Miley Cyrus might have recently split with husband Liam Hemsworth opened up about realising she is pansexual.

As Kristen perfectly sums it up in the interview, ‘I think we’re all getting to a place where – I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing – we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous. And it’s this really gorgeous thing.'
