She said it could also mean washing yourself 'lovingly' in the bath and 'genuinely enjoying your body.'

The Kardashian family have never been afraid of sharing details on their private lives. So it's no wonder that Kourtney, the eldest Kardashian sister, is open to exploring new things. In the latest post on her website POOSH, the reality is looking at autosexuality. But what is it?

Casey Tanner, a therapist and sex writer, does the honours in explaining things via Kourtney's lifestyle portal. 'If feeling sexy independent of someone else has ever turned you on, that's autosexuality, and it's totally normal', she writes.

'Many folks resist autosexuality, fearing that it's narcissistic or might detract from partnered sex. In reality, autosexuality can be a healthy, even valuable part of your sex life. Embrace loving yourself! Embrace turning yourself on!

'When we know how to turn ourselves on, we depend less on environmental cues to move us into a sensual headspace. When we look at or fantasise about ourselves, we are in touch with our bodies and senses. Getting turned on by oneself does not mean you think you're better than other people, that you're selfish, or that you're not attracted to your partner(s). Rather, it's one additional tool in your box for sparking desire and passion.'

Casey adds that our levels of autosexuality depend on the individual. Like all sexualities, it's a spectrum.

But is it just a fad, made up for clicks by POOSH? No. The BBC published an exploration of asexuality last year, while WebMD (not exactly a GP, but there we are) defines it as when a person may prefer self-pleasure over partnered sex.

So, there we have it. Autosexuality is, simply, feeling your oats, feeling sexy and enjoying that sensation. We're not sure where that does blend with simple vanity or narcissism, but we're sure Kourtney and POOSH will explore that soon enough.
