It's no secret Karl Largerfeld is a fan of Kristen Stewart, but recently he has shown just how much of a fan he is, by casting her in a short film he is making about Coco Chanel.

Hollywood A-lister Kristen Stewart will feature in Largerfeld's new movie about the iconic designer, set to premiere in December at Chanel's Metiers d’Arts show in Rome.

The Twilight star takes on the role of an actress playing Chanel in her younger years, in a film made-up of a series of screen tests. As Women's Wear Daily reports, it's a 'fictional behind-the-scenes look at a yet-to-be-made biopic about founder, Gabrielle ['Coco'] Chanel'.

What interestingly won Stewart the role, however, wasn't just that she is the current face of the Chanel brand, but fact that she impressed Lagerfeld at the audition stages, playing the character 'really, really mean'.

‘You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything,' Lagerfeld told WWD. 'She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer.’

The film also stars Geraldine Chaplin – who plays Chanel in the later stages of her life – and who has, in fact, already played the French designer in other films directed by Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld has been making Metiers d’Arts 'films' since 2008, and is reportedly adamant they be perceived as that: films.

Stewart's partnership with Lagerfeld follows a line of megastars who have also collaborated with the designer, chief amongst them, Gisele Bundchen, Nicole Kidman, Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingne.

When asked why, on this occasion, Lagerfeld chose to make a film about Chanel herself, the Creative Director, and head designer of Chanel since 1983, replied: 'They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?'

And why not indeed. A fitting tribute to the designer whose 132nd anniversary was celebrated earlier this month.
