News comes today that Dakota Johnson has banned her parents from watching her in Fifty Shades of Grey when it comes out later this year.

‘Dakota was like, “You guys cannot come. There’s no way.” So we’re not going,’ her mum – incidentally 56-year-old film legend Melanie Griffiths – told IndieWire about her daughter’s ban.

To be honest, kind of makes sense to us. When a sex scene unexpectedly comes up on a film you’re watching with your parents at Christmas, the crushing, awkward silence that descends over the living room pretty much kills us. (Worse when it’s something you think is safe like The Wedding Crashers.)

So imagine knowing your parents will be watching you engaging in S&M, playing Anastasia Steele opposite Jamie Doran’s Christian Grey in the film adaptation of EL James’ blockbuster novel. Yeah, worse. So much worse.

Still, Dakota seems braver than us. Because she did let her mum go on set at the moment she was filming in that infamous Red Room of Pain. ‘I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff,’ Melanie explained. ‘I did see the Room of Pain. I did go in there and check it out.’

Cringe...
