Aside from the hysteria caused when Kim Kardashian announced that she had celebrated her 40th birthday on a private island with a large group of friends - during a global pandemic - the images from the trip led to a resurgence of a truly bizarre theory. Fans of the reality TV star zoomed in on some of the images posted on social media, and voiced their insistence that Kim has six toes on her left foot. Click through the set to see what they're talking about.

'Okay but why does Kim have six toes????', one person exclaimed in the comments.

'Kim has 6 toes lol,' came another. 'WHY IS KIM HAVING SIX TOES IN ONE OF THESE PICS NOT TRENDING?' asked one.

The rumour seems to have started last year, when an image of Kim and her sister Kylie Jenner was posted on Instagram. A promo shot for their KKW fragrance collaboration, both women seemed to have an extra toe.

'Kim hunny you got six toes,' one person commented. '6 toes sis????' asked another.

'The confusing illusion is the result not of Photoshop, but of the sideways angle of her foot', a representative told a confused Page Six.

Nevertheless, the rumour persisted. It was then completely debunked by Kim herself in September, when she posted a clip captioned 'very baffling' on her Instagram stories, and proceeded to literally count her toes. Have a look. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

'Everyone thinks that I have six toes, and it's really wild,' she said in the video's narration. 'But it's this, part of my foot, that when I wear a shoe just like this it like smashes down right here and in a picture. I don't know why, it looks like a sixth toe.'

Mystery solved. Let's worry about something else. After all, 'there's people that are dying.'
